Petrochemicals are chemicals made from crude oil and natural gas. There are over 4,000 products classified as petrochemicals and their byproducts. Petrochemical industries are specialized in the production of petrochemicals that have various industrial applications. Based on chemical composition or chemical structure, petrochemicals can be divided into three (3) groups. These includes olefins, aromatics and synthesis gas.
Although the major use of petroleum is as a fuel, (gasoline, jet fuel, heating oil), and petroleum and natural gas are often used to generate electricity, there are many other uses.The list is endless.
